Representatives from both companies signed the contract recently. The Pearl GTL project is jointly developed by Qatar Petroleum and Shell. Under the contract, GWC will provide logistical support for the handling and storage of chemical material procured for use in the GTL facility at Ras Laffan.
GWC’s warehouse at Ras Laffan caters to the logistics requirements of Qatar’s oil and gas industry. The 16,000 sq m facility was launched in 2009 as the first ISO-certified and government approved warehouse for third-party storage of hazardous materials. With a purpose-built setup covering all health, safety and environment requirements for chemical storage, including gas leak detectors, spill kits, containment tanks, as well as fire-fighting systems, the facility currently stores all government-approved chemicals.
Nader Hakim, director, GWC, said: “We have been focusing on developing our chemical logistics solutions for our oil and gas customers, increasing our capacity for hazardous materials’ movements, storage and distribution.”
