GWC Sponsors Qatar Charity’s Orphanage Programme
DOHA QATAR Charity (QC) recently held a special ceremony to honour its sponsored orphans for their academic achievements. The event was organised in recognition of 98 orphans from primary, preparatory and secondary schools, as well as 58 of their mothers. It was sponsored by Gulf Warehousing Company. The orphans were awarded with certificate of excellence while their mothers were distinguished for their efforts in bringing up and educating the children.
In his opening speech, QC’s Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Local Development Department, Ibrahim bin Abdullah al Mohannadi said that the awards came to recognise the future leaders as well as to encourage academic excellence, particularly in the field of science. He thanked the orphans’ mothers for their dedication to the academic growth of their children.
Head of Public Relations at Gulf Warehousing Abdul- Aziz Mohammed expressed the company’s pleasure in supporting orphans and putting a smile on their faces.
The programme included a presentation ceremony for the leaders and future leaders’ project, cultural activities, memorisation of the Holy Quran, team sports and gift presentation, including iPads for the children and ‘Moulinex’ household appliances for the mothers.
Executive Director of Local Development at QC, Muhammad al Ghamdi said that the recognition of gifted and talented orphans would not be limited to the award ceremony, adding that the QC would work to include the young people in volunteering programmes, helping them to develop their talents and abilities.
“Orphan sponsorship is an essential part of the projects that Qatar Charity carries out within in the country. We seek to compensate as much as possible for the loss of a father and the support he provides to his family, socially and economically,” Ghamdi said, saying that this contributes to a stronger, more harmonious and stable community.
The orphans thanked Qatar Charity for the gesture. “May Allah grant Qatar Charity the best reward for setting up this event for us and our mothers. It is a great incentive to continue to excel and a message of thanks to our mothers,” said orphan Osama Imad al Din.
Qatar Charity sponsors around 304 orphans, who enjoy comprehensive support in the areas of education, health and social care.
